A GM electric pickup truck is in development, the company expects a drop in EV prices

A GM electric pickup truck is in development, the company expects a drop in EV pricesIn a conversation with Wall Street analysts at the UBS Global Industrials and Transportation Conference, General Motors President Mark Reuss said that the company will have "a complete electric lineup, including a pickup truck that’s in development." This is the second time that's widely known, in which GM tries to enter this market. The first known attempt became known in April when GM was in talks with Rivian for acquisition but these quickly subsided.

According to Reuss, the upcoming electric pickup truck will be based on GM's third-generation global EV platform. It will allow the creation of around 10 different body styles, ultimately leading to increasing scale and reducing costs. "This architecture is the canvas on which we will paint a profitable EV program," Reuss says. "We can build everything on this (platform) from just three drive units: front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or e-all-wheel drive."

At the end of May, GM announced that it partnered with the US-largest construction company Bechtel to build a US-wide charging network for EVs. This means the company already has solutions for charging infrastructure. Its work on the vehicles itself should provide the solutions for offering a competitive range.

Moreover, according to Reuss the battery pack costs will eventually drop. He said "We're going to reach parity (with ICE) a lot sooner than people think," he says. "(ICE) compliance will become expensive. All these things and more will lead to greater consumer acceptance of EVs, plus they are going to be great cars." Industry experts expect the parity to be achieved in the course of the next six years. As a result, purchasing an EV will be more affordable.Source
