Mazda announced a three-phase plan to electrification with a USD 11 billion investment
23 November 2022, 01:55:17

Phase I: Accelerating electrification as part of the multi-solution approach
From now through 2024, phase one will focus the company on becoming more resilient to changes in the business environment. To this end, Mazda is focusing on strengthening technology development and supply chains as well as further reducing costs. Mazda continues to drive the electrification of its vehicle fleet and will introduce attractive products that comply with the regulations in the respective markets. The company consistently implements its multi-solution approach.Phase II: Transition to electrification
In the years 2025 to 2027, the company will continue to push ahead with the electrification of the model range in view of more demanding regulations in the second phase, especially in Europe. This includes both refining and leveraging Mazda's electrification and production technologies, as well as introducing new battery electric vehicles around the world.Phase III: Adoption of electric vehicles by 2030 through strategic partnerships
The transition to electrification will be completed in the third phase by 2030. This is achieved with the help of cooperation. Mazda will continue to source batteries from its partner companies such as Panasonic. In addition to the existing suppliers, Mazda recently agreed with Envision AESC, a Japanese joint venture, to supply batteries for electric car production in Japan. As Mazda launches more battery-electric models in the medium term, the company will also explore opportunities to invest in battery manufacturing.Mazda has also agreed on joint development and production of highly efficient electric drives with various partners. Cooperation partners include Imasen Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., Ondo Corporation, Chuo Kaseihin Co., Inc., Hiroshima Aluminum Industry Co., Ltd., HIROTEC Corporation, Fukuta Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd. and ROHM Co.,Ltd.
In a first step towards the electrification of all models by 2030, Mazda has joined a joint venture that is developing highly efficient production technology and establishing a production and delivery structure for electric drives.
Mazda has also agreed to jointly develop inverters, including silicon carbide semiconductors, and signed a statement on the joint development of advanced motor technologies. Mazda has also established a joint venture company for learning and developing engine technologies together with two partner companies.
Mazda will also continue to improve the safety of its vehicles - a key aspect is the development of advanced, human-centric driver assistance systems.
