smart has unveiled the all-new smart #5 at the world premiere event in Byron Bay, Australia. With this vehicle, the brand is entering the premium mid-size SUV segment. The smart #5 is the third vehicle in the brand's all-electric portfolio. Alongside the smart #1 and #3, the smart #5 offers another premium SUV equipped with state-of-the-art electric drive, ADAS technologies and a seamless, intelligent cockpit. With the introduction of the most versatile vehicle in its product portfolio to date, smart offers yet another vehicle to meet the diverse needs of its customers worldwide.

The smart #5 was designed by Mercedes-Benz and picks up on typical design elements of smart such as the panoramic halo roof, the frameless doors, and the short front and rear overhangs. The smart #5 has a wheelbase of 2900 mm, with an overall length of 4705 mm. The smart #5 features the characteristic, oblong headlights at the front and rear as well as the smart logo on the D-pillar. Dual-coloured mirrors and the floating wheel caps with the central smart logos, which remain upright when the wheels spin, ensure the premium character. Equipped with the exclusive Adventurers' Collection, the smart #5 Summit Edition combines premium quality, practical innovations, and multifunctionality with features such as a roof light bar, an electric trailer hitch and the underbody protection, roof carrier, side steps, side bag and side ladder included in the package.

The all-new #5 offers a modern, spacious, and tech-savvy interior. Zero-gravity seats with 121 degrees of recline, upholstered in leather with V-shaped head curtain airbags, cushion airbags, and seat-integrated safety belts are among the highlights. In the rear, leather seats with a head room of very comfortable 1,060 mm, heating, seatback adjustment, electric sunshield, and airplane-style LED reading lights also come with a "First Class" setting, while the one-button comfort mode offers passengers more legroom. Accents such as oak wood trim and curved, oblong design elements ensure the premium character of the interior.

Comfort features include the ambient lighting with 256 colours and the ability to adjust all seats to create a king-size, queen-size, or single sleeping space in the cockpit. The entertainment system features a built-in projector paired with a Sennheiser Signature Sound System with 20 speakers and a portable speaker. The raising speaker with ambient lighting synchronizes with the rhythm of the music to create an audio-visual experience. In addition, the vehicle has 34 storage compartments, a 72-liter frunk, and spacious storage space of up to 1530 liters in the rear.

At the focal point of the interior of the smart #5 is a modern HMI with an intuitive design. It is equipped with a 25.6-inch Augmented Reality Head-up Display, a 10.3-inch full-colour Ultra HD LCD instrument cluster and two 13-inch AMOLED 2.5K displays. A state-of-the-art generative AI voice assistant enables the driver to use a variety of sources to provide precise answers to almost any question. Paired with smart's intelligent avatars, the driver can control key functions with their voice alone, including phone calls and messages, music and media, climate control, navigation, personal settings and vehicle control, as well as all internet functions. A new lion avatar, Leo, guides users through the controls.

For a smooth response time, the vehicle utilizes the power of the advanced AMD V2000 high-computing-power chip. The processor excels at rendering the vehicle's low-poly smart OS user interface, which is based on the Unreal engine and manages real-time effects that are critical for a responsive, smooth and aesthetically pleasing experience. The result is an integrated system that combines superior computing power with contemporary design, offering the user an intelligent and interactive experience that epitomizes the new model's fusion of premium comfort and technology.

With the 800-volt platform, the smart #5 can reach new levels of performance in terms of charging speed and range. The 100 kWh battery of the smart #5 has a super-charging function (4C), which enables charging of up to 70% of capacity in just 15 minutes (charging from 10% to 80%). Ranges of over 740 km (CLTC)1 can be achieved and a 220 V power socket in the trunk offer unlimited versatility when off the grid. In addition, the vehicle has several on- and off-road driving modes, including Adaptive, Sand, Snow, Mud, and Rock.

The all-new smart #5 will be launched and delivered in Europe at the beginning of next year.
