SAIC teases the MG 4X and the MG 07

SAIC MG teased two new models, the MG 4X and the MG 07. The company released official images and early specifications, highlighting its continued push into the global electric‑vehicle market. Both models expand the MG portfolio with new design directions and updated technology aimed at EV buyers in China, Europe, and other international markets.
MG 4X highlights
The MG 4X becomes the first fully electric SUV in the MG4 family. The “X” designation is marketed by SAIC as symbolizing "infinite possibilities" aimed at younger buyers. The new model marks a shift in the MG4 formula, moving from a hatchback layout to a crossover body style to compete in the high‑volume electric SUV segment. The model debuts a semi‑solid‑state battery with a CLTC range of 510 km, or roughly 317 miles. SAIC MG emphasized that this advanced battery technology will be standard even on the entry‑level version. It uses a manganese‑based chemistry with only 5% liquid electrolyte content. This design improves thermal stability and enhances performance in cold weather.
The exterior design of the MG 4X builds on the visual identity of the MG4 while adding SUV‑specific elements. The front end features MG’s illuminated logo along with a new full‑width light bar to increase recognition. The bumper adopts a more dynamic shape to reinforce the brand’s sporty character. Along the sides, a sharp waistline runs the length of the vehicle, and the raised ground clearance reflects its SUV positioning. The rear is expected to include through‑type taillights similar to those on the MG4 hatchback.
Although the full interior has not yet been revealed, MG confirmed that the 4X will include a smart cockpit co‑developed with Oppo. This system, called Hand‑Car Interconnection, allows seamless and lag‑free integration between the user’s smartphone and the vehicle’s infotainment interface. For driver assistance, the MG 4X uses hardware developed with Horizon Robotics and supports high‑speed Navigate on Pilot (NOA) as well as automated parking. MG claims these features deliver the strongest performance in the model’s price category.
MG 07 highlights
The MG 07 takes a different approach as a new‑energy coupe built on an all‑new platform. It presents a fastback silhouette with a strong, sporty stance. The front end uses a large one‑piece clamshell hood manufactured with a hemming process to create a seamless appearance. Along the sides, the MG 07 incorporates a metal air‑duct structure that required splitting a single component into five pieces to overcome stamping and assembly challenges. At the rear, the coupe adopts a ducktail design formed through angled stamping on high‑strength steel, enhancing its athletic look.
One of the most notable technical upgrades is the addition of a roof‑mounted LiDAR sensor. While the current MG7 relies on a more conventional sensor suite, the MG 07 is engineered for Level 2+ urban navigation, offering more advanced driver‑assistance features. Early sightings also indicate that the cockpit will likely use the MG×OPPO intelligent connectivity system. This collaboration creates what the companies describe as an "Ecosystem Without Borders,"enabling deep integration between OPPO smartphones and the vehicle's digital interface. Semi‑flush door handles further improve aerodynamics and contribute to the car’s streamlined profile.
The MG 07 is expected to debut on SAIC's Nebula (Xingyun) platform, which supports an 800‑volt electrical architecture. Based on MG’s current technical roadmap, the model will likely incorporate the latest version of the Rubik's Cube (One Pack) battery system. This system uses a horizontal cell layout that allows the battery pack to be as thin as 110 mm, improving cabin space and lowering the center of gravity. The platform supports multiple battery chemistries, including LFP, NCM, and the semi‑solid‑state batteries recently developed by SAIC and QingTao Energy, which target energy densities up to 400 Wh/kg.
SAIC MG has not yet released interior details or pricing for either model, but the company's design choices and early specifications suggest a focus on expanding its EV offerings with more variety in body styles and technology levels. Both vehicles are expected to target markets where MG has seen rapid growth, including Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia.
