NIO will make a prototype EV based on ProLogium's solid-state battery pack
25 August 2019, 08:06:43
ProLogium Technology has announced that it has signed an agreement with NIO in Thailand. Both parties have agreed to build a prototype of an all-electric vehicle that uses ProLogium's solid-state battery pack. They will also further cooperate on the production and application of solid-state batteries. Thus, NIO joins the ranks of companies with an interest in solid-state batteries such as Volkswagen and Fisker, for example. For its latest vehicle, NIO ES6, the company uses the CATL NCM811 battery cells - that's the first EV in the world to use them, actually.
ProLogium Technology has been working on solid-state batteries for years. Its first commercial solution was the usage of ceramic electrolyte and the creation of its Flexible Lithium Ceramic Battery (FLCB). The very first production-ready products were made for consumer electronics and wearables. After years of gaining experience in the field of consumer solid-state batteries, ProLogium turned to EV batteries and developed a brand new packaging approach with respect to the high security, heat-dissipating capability, and mechanism characteristics of the solid-state battery, and created the MAB (MultiAxis Bipolar Pack) technology. It is compact as it saves a huge amount of wires, packaging, and heat-dissipating materials. It is also safer and has a higher energy density.
The two companies also might combine NIO's Battery Motor Controller system and ProLogium's accumulated technologies in the field of solid-state batteries, to create a brand new, or even optimized MAB MultiAxis Bipolar Pack for a future market-ready electric vehicle. Solid-state batteries still face many challenges on their road to industrialization. The very first commercial-ready solid-state batteries are expected next year at the earliest but it is yet unknown who will be the first to market them.Source
