Hyundai and Canoo will jointly develop a platform for upcoming Hyundai and Kia EVs

12 February 2020, 03:36:56

Hyundai and Canoo will jointly develop a platform for upcoming Hyundai and Kia EVsHyundai and Canoo announced their plans to jointly develop an electric vehicle (EV) platform based on Canoos proprietary skateboard design for future Hyundai and Kia EVs. Canoo is an LA-based company and its skateboard platform integrates a strong emphasis on functional integration, meaning all components fulfil as many functions as possible. This feat of engineering reduces the skateboard size, weight and a total number of parts, which ultimately provides more interior cabin space and a more cost-effective EV offering. Moreover, the platform can be paired with any cabin design. This will help Hyundai to achieve a simplified and standardized development process with cost reduction.

This investment is part of Hyundai's plans to invest USD 52 billion in future technologies through 2025, while Kia will invest $25 billion in electrification and future mobility technologies, aiming for eco-friendly vehicles to comprise 25% of its total sales by 2025.
