Tesla buys out Maxwell Technologies for $218 millionAn official press announcement issued by Maxwell Technologies half an hour ago unveils that "it has entered into a definitive agreement" to merge with Tesla, Inc. After Tesla acquires all issued and outstanding shares, Maxwell will be merged with a Tesla subsidiary and become a wholly owned subsidiary of Tesla. Each share of Maxwell common stock is priced at $4.75 and the whole deal is accessed at $218 million. Maxwell expects that the deal will be closed in the second quarter of 2019.

"We are very excited with today's announcement that Tesla has agreed to acquire Maxwell. Tesla is a well-respected and world-class innovator that shares a common goal of building a more sustainable future," said Dr. Franz Fink, President and Chief Executive Officer of Maxwell. "We believe this transaction is in the best interests of Maxwell stockholders and offers investors the opportunity to participate in Tesla's mission of accelerating the advent of sustainable transport and energy."

All Tesla models up to now are equipped with batteries using Panasonic cells.
