Volkswagen unveils the all‑new Electric ID. Polo - a reinvention of a bestseller

Volkswagen unveils the all‑new Electric ID. Polo - a reinvention of a bestsellerVolkswagen has lifted the curtain on the all‑new ID. Polo, marking a decisive moment for one of the brand's most iconic nameplates. After more than 20 million units sold, the Polo enters the electric era with a clean-sheet redesign, a new front‑wheel‑drive architecture, and a focus on efficiency, space, and accessibility. Developed in Wolfsburg, the ID. Polo arrives as a compact EV with the proportions, technology, and refinement of a higher segment - yet with an entry price starting at €24,995 in Germany. The design signals a new chapter for Volkswagen. As the first production model to fully adopt the brand's Pure Positive design language, the ID. Polo features clear, timeless surfaces, a friendly front end, and a powerful rear. Signature cues, such as the C‑pillar inspired by the first Golf, anchor it in Volkswagen heritage, while modern light graphics and an illuminated VW logo (on higher trims) project its technological ambitions.

Inside, the transformation is even more pronounced. A 10‑inch Digital Cockpit sits directly in the driver's line of sight, paired with a 13‑inch Innovision infotainment display that resembles a high‑end tablet in both clarity and responsiveness. High‑quality materials, thoughtful ergonomics, and subtle design touches - like decorative stitching and small Volkswagen badges integrated into the trim - give the cabin a more premium feel than any Polo before it. A new "retro display" mode nods to the Golf I facelift, blending nostalgia with digital precision.

Built on the enhanced MEB+ platform, the ID. Polo offers three power outputs - 85 kW, 99 kW, and 155 kW - and two battery sizes. The LFP battery in the lower-output versions delivers up to 329 km of WLTP range and charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 23 minutes. The top 155 kW variant uses a 52 kWh NMC battery, extending range to 454 km and cutting DC charging time to roughly 24 minutes. Despite its compact footprint, the new architecture unlocks significantly more interior space, including a 25 percent increase in luggage capacity to 441 liters.

Volkswagen has also equipped the ID. Polo with technologies typically reserved for larger models. Connected Travel Assist with automatic traffic‑light recognition debuts in this segment, while one‑pedal driving comes standard. Three equipment lines - Trend, Life, and Style - offer increasing levels of comfort and sophistication, from LED headlights and DC fast charging on the base model to IQ.LIGHT matrix headlights, ambient lighting, and upgraded materials on the Style trim.

Optional features further elevate the experience: a Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic glass roof, and even a pneumatic massage function for the 12‑way adjustable front seats - an unexpected luxury in the compact class. Vehicle‑to‑load capability is standard across the range, allowing the ID. Polo to power external devices up to 3.6 kW, from e‑bikes to camping equipment.

Pre‑sales begin immediately in Germany, with the first available configuration being the ID. Polo Life is equipped with the 155 kW motor and 52 kWh battery, priced from €33,795. The more affordable base model and additional variants will follow in the summer. Volkswagen positions the ID. Polo as a showcase of the Core brand group's collaborative strategy, leveraging shared development across Volkswagen, SEAT/CUPRA, Škoda, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to deliver more technology at a lower cost.
