The Elec reports: SK On turns its attention to 4680 batteries

The Elec has learned that SK On is turning its attention to 4680 batteries. So far, the company has worked oned prismatic and pouch-type batteries for EVs and ESS. Industry insiders have revealed that the company has appointed staff that has previously focused on prismatic cells to a 4680-cylinder cells research team. It is by the advanced process development head Lee Seung-roh. A research production line is also in the works for a January launch. Next year is SK On's deadline to decide whether it will board the 4680-cell wagon. All other major EV battery manufacturers already produce 4680 cells - LGES, Samsung SDI, Panasonic, and Chinese brands.
