Toyota Hilux BEV announced in Thailand

Toyota's push into electrified pickups has arrived in Thailand with the Hilux BEV, a battery-electric reimagining of the country's best-selling workhorse that keeps the Hilux's rugged DNA while switching the drivetrain to fully electric power.

At first glance the Hilux BEV looks familiar - familiar toughness, high ground clearance, and functional cargo bed - yet the hood hides a quiet, torque-rich electric powertrain that promises instant acceleration, smoother operation, and lower operating costs for fleets and private buyers alike.

Toyota has retained the Hilux's utility-first architecture, reinforcing the chassis for heavy-duty use, integrating waterproof and dust-resistant electrical systems tailored to Southeast Asian climates, and tuning suspension and braking for both loaded towing and nimble urban driving.

Built as a four-wheel-drive chassis, the prototype retains the Hilux'с commanding proportions - length 5,320 mm (about 17.5 ft), width 1,855 mm (about 6.1 ft), height 1,800 mm (about 5.9 ft) and a long wheelbase of 3,085 mm (about 10.1 ft) - giving it the cargo capacity and on-road composure buyers expect while providing the ground clearance and robustness for mixed urban and rural Thai roads.

Under the hood, a 59.2 kWh battery and an electric architecture tuned for utility deliver a maximum system output of 144 kW (roughly 193 hp) and a targeted cruising range of 300 km or more (about 186+ miles), a balance aimed at daily work cycles, regional routes, and the growing network of chargers across Thailand.

Inside, the cabin modernizes the Hilux experience with a simplified, driver-focused dashboard, upgraded connectivity and infotainment calibrated for Thai language and services, and durable materials selected to withstand daily worksite wear while offering the comfort expected by new EV buyers.

On the ownership side, Toyota pairs the Hilux BEV with service and charging strategies designed for Thailand's mix of urban centers and rural roads - dealer-backed charging solutions, planned support for fast-charging corridors, and maintenance programs that leverage Toyota's regional network.

Safety and utility remain central: the Hilux BEV includes reinforced crumple zones adapted for battery protection, multiple airbags, and advanced driver-assist systems tuned for local traffic conditions, while bed and payload configurations mirror the versatility that made Hilux indispensable across industries.
