MINI Vision Urbanaut - an all-new interpretation of a vision of space

18 November 2020, 04:47:34

MINI Vision Urbanaut - an all-new interpretation of a vision of spaceBMW has presented "an all-new interpretation of a vision of space" - the MINI Vision Urbanaut. Its pinpoints are the huge interior space, enhanced versatility, high-end digital services, minimal footprint.

The concept vehicle introduces the MINI moments - a set of modes that enable a wide range of usage scenarios. These include Chill - for relaxing or working during a journey; Wanferlust - when driving without automated driving functions; Vibe - when time with other people is on focus. The MINI designers say that first created the interior prior to the exterior. The vehicle can easily turn into a living space once stationary. The large sliding door on the side can be fully open to unveil the inside of the car that can serve as a lounge. There are no other doors on the driver's side or front passenger side.

The two front seats are designed to rotate, while the backrests for the generously sized seat surface in the rear can be folded manually (left rear seat) and turned around (right rear seat). The darker environs of the cabin’s rear section provide a quieter space - the Cosy Corner. When the car is stationary, the dashboard lowers and the driver’s area becomes a comfortable seating corner - the "daybed". Added to which, the windscreen can be opened upwards when stationary to create a kind of Street Balcony.

The MINI Token is the centerpiece of the MINI Vision Urbanaut’s experience worlds. It is roughly the same size as a worry stone and activates the three preconfigured MINI moments - Chill, Wanderlust and Vibe - when placed in purpose-designed slots in the table at the center of the car. It can also be programmed to provide another kind of personalized experience.

The dominant material in the interior is knitted textile, which combines cosiness and quality with softness and comfort. The use of cork on the steering wheel and sections of the floor adds a special touch thanks to its natural feel, and ensures an authentically pleasant interior climate.

On the outside, the MINI Vision Urbanaut has a minimalist mono-volume design. The headlights are visible only when switched on and are able to display different multi-colored graphics. The octagonal closed grille serves as an intelligence panel for automated driving. There are mulitcolor dynamic matrix lights on the back as well also placed behind a milled aluminum cover.

The matt exterior shade Zero Gravity transitions from a metallic green with blue flip effect to a subtly toned grey. The windows show a pattern in body color, fading in a gradient from bottom to top. This creates a harmonious transition from the vehicle body to the windows and roof. The pattern also provides a certain amount of privacy without having to darken the windows.
