Lucid unveiled its new Midsize platform for premium BEVs

Lucid Group has announced a sweeping financial and product strategy aimed at scaling its business, improving profitability, and expanding its technology into higher‑volume premium segments. During its investor day in New York, the company detailed its upcoming Midsize platform, introduced its next‑generation Atlas electric drive unit, and previewed new software capabilities, including an in‑vehicle AI assistant and an expanded autonomy roadmap. Lucid emphasized that these developments are designed to strengthen near‑term execution while supporting long‑term growth.

A major highlight of the event was Lucid's continued collaboration with Uber. The two companies are finalizing an agreement to deploy vehicles built on Lucid’s Midsize platform at a scale comparable to the Gravity robotaxi program, with plans to expand over time. Lucid described this partnership as a key component of its strategy to monetize software, services, and autonomy‑ready vehicle architectures.

Lucid also unveiled Lunar, a two‑seat robotaxi concept built on the Midsize platform. Although still in the concept phase, Lunar demonstrates how the platform can support future autonomous and commercial applications. Lucid's new Midsize platform is engineered to deliver premium electric vehicles at a more accessible price point, starting below 50,000 dollars. Two new models were previewed: Lucid Cosmos, an SUV focused on efficiency and interior space, and Lucid Earth, an SUV designed for customers seeking a more adventurous driving experience. A third consumer model will be revealed later. Lucid emphasized that these vehicles maintain the brand’s signature driving dynamics while adopting a simpler, more scalable manufacturing approach.

Efficiency remains central to Lucid's strategy. The company noted that its industry‑leading efficiency allows vehicles to achieve long range with smaller battery packs, reducing cost and improving performance. The new Atlas electric drive unit reflects this philosophy with a smaller, lighter, and more modular design that improves manufacturing scale. Lucid also highlighted design‑for‑manufacturing improvements, such as eliminating traditional beltline moldings to reduce part count and assembly time while creating a cleaner exterior appearance.
