The all-electric MINI Cooper SE is official, packs a 32.6 kWh battery

9 July 2019, 07:07:39

The all-electric MINI Cooper SE is official, packs a 32.6 kWh batteryAt an event in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, MINI has unveiled its first all-electric car - the MINI Cooper SE. Based on the already familiar BMW i3s permanent magnet synchronous motor with 135 kW of power (184 hp) and 270 Nm of torque, it has a top speed of 150 km/h and 0-100 km/h acceleration of 7.3 seconds. A major difference here is that instead of being on the rear axle like on the BMW i3s, the electric motor is on the front axle.

The battery pack has a capacity of 32.6 kWh similar to the one on the 2018 BMW i3s 33 kWh and consists of 12 modules. The pack is T-shaped. Respectively, the WLTP range is similar - from 235 to 270 km. The model arrives with an 11 kW Type 2 and CCS Combo 2 charger onboard and supports 50 kW DC fast charging. The combined power consumption is 15-13.2 kWh/100 km. The boot capacity is 211 litres and when the rear seats are folded, you get 731 litres of boot space. The suspension system includes a single-joint spring strut at the front and a multilink rear axle that is unique within the competitive field and electromechanical steering.

MINI Cooper SE has a two-level regen and an AVAS system for pedestrian warning already installed. There are 4 driving modes - MID, Sport, Green and Green+. The basic trim of the model includes LED headlights, 2-zone automatic air-conditioning, heating with heat pump technology, auxiliary heating, electric parking brake and Connected Navigation. The price for the base version will be around €32,500. In this price range you can get a Honda e (~€32,000), Renault Zoe (€31,990) or an Opel Corsa-e (from €29,900). Source
