Sony Honda Mobility will introduce its first EV in the spring of 2026 in North AmericaSony Honda Mobility announced at a news conference in Tokyo that will introduce its first EV in the second half of 2025. Pre-order books will be open then and the first deliveries to customers in North America will be made in the spring of 2026, while customers in Japan will receive their vehicles in the second half of 2026. The future Sony Honda Mobility EVs will be produced in Honda's North American plant. Honda will also manage procurement. The first EV being expected to hit the high-price range.

The Sony Honda Mobility electric vehicles will be built around three core values - Autonomy, Augmentation, and Affinity. The Autonomy value is about providing a comfortable moving space on top of safety and security technology. The companies will aim to offer Level 3 autonomous driving function under specific conditions and at the same time broader driving conditions such as urban areas. They are also working on the development of level 2+ driving support functions. There are plans to use a high-performance SoC with a total computing performance of 800 TOPS or more as hardware.

The Augmentation value evolves around proposing a new human-machine interface and linking with services provided in the cloud, achieving greater personalization for each user and a customized in-vehicle environment. Ultimately, this will provide users with enjoyment other than driving. By fusing the real and virtual worlds, Sony-Honda will turn the mobile space into an entertainment space and a moving space. The new HMI/IVI system will work with the latest chipset to create a high-performance integrated ADAS ECU.

The Affinity value is about cooperating with people and achieving greater symbiosis in society. Through an expansive set of services, Sony Honda Mobility plans to create an interactive mobility society and make its future EVs new personalized entertainment environments using a consistent and integrated framework from in-vehicle software to software on the cloud. The company considers mobility as a mobile experience service, we will design the overall service architecture.

Sony has already presented its first EV prototype called Vision-S in 2020 and in CES 2022 it introduced the second one Vision-S 02. Sony said that it is planned for a market launch. Honda has presented and launched in the EV market a single model so far - the Honda e. it also partners with General Motors to manufacture affordable EVs planned for a market launch in 2027.

The Sony Honda Mobility presentation ended with a teaser of a vehicle that will most probably be previewed at CES 2023 in Las Vegas (January 4, 2023).
