Volkswagen introduces the ID.3 - a Golf-sized all-electric vehicle available for pre-bookingVolkswagen's first official ID. model will be named "ID.3". The Golf-sized hatch is already available for pre-booking. This will be a launch-edition priced at below EUR 40,000 in Germany, excluding government incentives. The entry-level ID.3 will cost EUR 29,990 and the top version's prices has not been announced. Potential customers may enter an early production slot by pledging EUR 1,000, which is fully refundable in Germany until April 2020. The launch-edition ID.3 will be produced in only 30,000 units, while the regular production vehicle will target 100,000 per year. The launch-edition will be delivered in mid-2020 and the production will start at the end of this year in VW's factory in Zwickay, Germany.

The launch-edition ID.3 1st Plus is fitted with the mid-range battery that ensures a WLTP range of 420 km (261 miles) on a single charge. The base version will provide a range of 330 km and the top version - 550 km. The vehicle will support 100-125 kW DC fast charging. "With the ID.3, we will be ushering in the third major chapter of strategic importance in the history of our brand, following the Beetle and the Golf," Juergen Stackmann, VW brand's sales and marketing chief, said. "The number three also signals expandability into the segments above and below it. We have a lot in the pipeline," Stackmann said.

The VW ID. family will include more than 20 BEVs allowing VW to become the top-selling EV brand by 2025. The most important markets for the ID.3 will be Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK and Austria. ID.3 buyers receive free charging for the first year up to a maximum of 2,000 kWh at public charging stations that use the brand's We Charge app, including the fast chargers operated by Ionity.
