Volvo XC40 Recharge is official with a 78 kWh battery

Volvo has just announced the Volvo XC40 Recharge - the brand's first all-electric vehicle. The company promised it will launch one BEV per year as of now and 10-20% of its lineup will be PHEVs starting from next year. All Volvo BEVs and PHEVs will be part of the all-new sub-brand launched with the XC 40 Recharge - Recharge.

Back to the Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 AWD. The SUV features Volvo's high-end safety features which made the brand synonymous to safety. It arrives with Google's Android OS which has been customized with Volvo's participation. Regular OTA updates have been promised as well as top-notch voice commands via Google Assistant. Not only the infotainment but also the safety and assistance systems are completely new, created from the ground up especially for the Recharge vehicles.

In terms of Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 AWD specifications, the model packs a 78 kWh battery placed under the floor in the middle. It provides a range of 400 km and can be charged to 80% in 40 minutes via DC charging. The car has a 400V system and has an all-wheel-drive system with two 150 kW electric motors and a total system torque of 660 Nm. The vehicle accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

The major part of the presentation has been dedicated to announcing Volvo's commitment to sustainability which the company is determined to turn into a core value - just like safety. Electrification is part of its holistic sustainability approach and the Recharge brand is one of the steps to demonstrate the company's determination in this direction. As mentioned earlier, this brand will include all BEVs and PHEVs from Volvo. By 2025, the company is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by 25% for the supply chain, by 25% for operations and by 50% for cars. By 2040, Volvo plans to reach zero carbon footprint. In 2020, the company expects 20% of its sales to be generated from PHEVs. In 2025, 50% of the sales should arrive from battery electric vehicles.
