BYD Seal 06 GT debuts with extremely fast charging and second-gen Blade Battery

Chinese automaker BYD has expanded its Seal family with a new all-electric 2026 model - the Seal 06 GT - showcasing the company's latest battery and ultra‑fast charging technologies as it courts younger buyers and pushes to ease range anxiety. The two models are equipped with BYD's second‑generation Blade Battery and a flash charging system that the company says can take a battery from 10% to 70% in roughly five minutes, and to 97% in about nine minutes.

The BYD Seal 06 GT is offered as a pure electric hatchback with a length of 4,630 millimeters and a 2,820 mm wheelbase, and it will be available with two motor outputs, 240 kW and 200 kW. BYD lists pure‑electric range figures of up to 520 kilometers and 620 kilometers for different configurations, while the performance‑oriented GT aims to combine sporty dynamics with the brand's marine aesthetic design language and hidden door handles. Central to BYD's announcement is the company's flash charging infrastructure plan. BYD said it has already built thousands of flash charging stations and intends to expand rapidly, targeting 20,000 stations by year‑end, including a network of highway flash chargers spaced to reduce long‑distance charging concerns. As of early April 2026, BYD reported about 5,000 flash charging stations in service across nearly 300 cities and more than 700,000 registered users on its flash charging app.

BYD's charging claims extend to extreme conditions: the company says charging times increase only marginally in very cold environments, adding about three minutes at minus‑30 degrees Celsius. The automaker also emphasized that the new Blade Battery and flash charging combination is being rolled out across multiple models, signaling a broader strategy to make ultra‑fast charging a competitive advantage.

Sales momentum for the Seal family appears strong: BYD reported that the Seal series recorded nearly 29,800 units sold in March, and cumulative sales for the lineup reached more than 74,000 units in the first quarter of the year. BYD’s management has also expressed ambitious export goals for 2026, underlining the company's dual focus on domestic market penetration and international expansion.
