The 2023 Subaru Solterra all-electric SUV goes official in Japan

Subaru has unveiled the 2023 Subaru Solterra for Japan today and the global version will go official ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show. The all-electric five-passenger SUV is developed with Toyota and has an AWD system with an 80 kW motor on the front and a 160 kW motor on the rear axle. It uses Subaru's AWD X-Mode system with a new Grip Control. The compact eAxle motor unit realizes a short overhang design and a long wheelbase for expanded legroom. Power is supplied by a 71.4 kWh Li-Ion battery with 460 km of range according to Japan's WLTC standard. It supports 150 kW DC charging.

Both the exterior and the interior are full of "advanced feeling" with a definite resemblance between the Solterra and Toyota's bz4x. The hexagon grille with seamless shape, the c-shaped headlamp that is Subaru's identity, and the cockpit with the top mount meter are various designs that express the advanced feeling. The seamless console is also particular about functions such as operability and storage, and the large glass roof further enhances the sense of openness. In addition, Subaru's first fully automatic parking assistance function is equipped with advanced functions such as the system controls steering, shifting, accelerator, and brake operation, and all auto parking.

The dimensions of the Subaru Solterra and the Toyota bz4x are also similar - a length of 4,690 mm, 1,860 mm width, and 1,650 mm height. The Solterra weighs 2,020 kilograms. 18@ wheels come as standard with 20-inch wheels being optional.
