Nio adds new color to ES8 SUV to sustain delivery growth

Nio has introduced a new exterior color for its third‑generation ES8 SUV in an effort to keep sales momentum strong. The company unveiled the M42 Nebula Red paint option, priced at 10,000 yuan (about $1,450), drawing visual inspiration from the Orion Nebula. Showroom vehicles featuring the new color have already arrived at 201 Nio locations across China.

The timing of this update aligns with a major financial milestone for the automaker. Nio recently reported an operating profit of 807.3 million yuan (approximately $117 million) under GAAP for Q4 2025, marking its first profitable quarter. Much of this success has been driven by strong demand for the high‑margin ES8, which starts at 406,800 yuan (around $59,000). Despite the slowdown typically seen during the Chinese New Year period, the company still delivered 11,260 ES8 units in February.

According to Nio’s leadership, new ES8 orders rebounded quickly after the holiday season. The company expects to reach its 80,000th delivery of the third‑generation ES8 later this month, signaling continued strong customer interest. Analysts at Deutsche Bank noted that Nio’s weekly order volume in early March reached its highest level of 2026 so far, supported by aggressive promotional campaigns.

One key factor behind the promotions is the significant reduction in customer wait times. Delivery estimates for the ES8 dropped from 13–14 weeks in February to just 4–5 weeks in early March. By March 9, wait times shortened even further to roughly 3–4 weeks. While these efforts help boost short‑term sales, Nio is also preparing for the launch of its next flagship SUV, the ES9, scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
