The all-electric Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback will debut in the USA and Canada

Mitsubishi Motors is preparing a significant addition to its North American lineup, confirming that the all‑new Eclipse Sportback will go on sale in the United States and Canada in the second half of 2026. The model marks a new chapter for the brand: a fully electric subcompact SUV supplied by Nissan on an OEM basis, yet redesigned with Mitsubishi's own visual identity.

The Eclipse Sportback arrives as a battery‑electric vehicle aimed at drivers who want a compact footprint without sacrificing versatility. Mitsubishi positions it as a sporty, environmentally conscious option suited to daily commuting, weekend trips, and light adventure. Although the vehicle is sourced from Nissan, Mitsubishi has applied a series of exterior modifications to ensure it stands apart. The front and rear bumpers, grille, headlights, taillights, rear gate, D‑pillars, and wheel designs have all been reworked to reflect the brand’s design language.

The project is the latest example of deepening collaboration within the Renault‑Nissan‑Mitsubishi Alliance. The three companies have increasingly turned to shared platforms and OEM supply arrangements to strengthen their respective product portfolios. Mitsubishi already supplies Nissan with the Rogue Plug‑in Hybrid for North America, the Navara for Oceania, and the Livina for the Philippines, while sourcing the Versa Van from Nissan for the Philippine market. Joint development efforts also extend to new pickup trucks for North America and kei‑cars for Japan.

By adding the Eclipse Sportback to its North American range, Mitsubishi aims to accelerate its electrification strategy while managing development costs through strategic partnerships. The company will continue leveraging alliances to broaden its lineup and improve long‑term profitability as the industry shifts toward electric mobility.
