The Audi skysphere concept roadster is unveiled
10 August 2021, 15:26:30

The vehicle weighs 1800 kg and employs a rear-wheel driving system with 465 kW motor with 750 Nm of torque. The weight distribution of around 60% on the rear axle results in ample traction and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds. The battery modules are placed in the center tunnel between the seats and behind the cabin. The battery will offer more than 80 kWh of capacity for a range of more than 500 km (WLTP) in the economical GT mode.
The vehicle employs double-wishbone axles in the front and the rear. Moreover, the latest Audi adaptive air suspension system is implemented in the concept car and features three independent air chambers. A steer-by-wire system controls both the front and the rear wheels. Different steering ratios and settings can be chosen by the driver because the system is not mechanically connected to the front axle.
The interior of the Audi skysphere concept has two different configurations depending on whether the vehicle is at level 4 autonomous driving or in driver-operated mode. When the vehicle is moving autonomously, the steering wheel and pedals are swiveled into into an invisible position and completely remove from the interior. Passengers enjoy a new freedom with this option. In driver-operated mode, the interior transforms into an ergonomic cockpit. The interior design is inspired by Art Deco with comfortable seats, sustainable upholstery from microfiber fabric and synthetic leather, plus eucalyptus wood. Either way, large touch monitor surfaces on the dashboard and in the upper area of the center console are used top operate the vehicle and infotainment systems. Small touch panels in the doors operate the air conditioning. The high-end sound system uses hidden speakers.
Audi plans to launch two other concept cars – the Audi grandsphere limousine which will be presented by the end of 2021, and the Audi urbansphere hatchback expected to appear in 2022.
