The new BMW iX xDrive40 and new BMW iX xDrive50 - main specifications and pricesBMW has unveiled the new 2022 BMW iX xDrive40 and new BMW iX xDrive50 these are production version models of the BMW iX which was announced in November last year and got its final winter testing in December last year and is currently in the final phase of its series development.

The BMW iX xDrive50 is fitted with a battery with a gross energy content of over 100 kWh for a range in excess of 600 km (373 miles) in the WLTP test cycle. The average electric power consumption in the WLTP cycle of less than 21 kWh/100 km. The model supports up to 200 kW DC charging. In addition, the AWD system has a total power output of over 370 kW/500 hp and enables acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 5.0 seconds.

The battery unit for the 2022 BMW iX xDrive40 has a gross energy content of more than 70 kWh for a range of more than 400 km (249 miles) and it supports up to 150 kW DC charging. The average electric power consumption in the WLTP cycle is under 20 kWh/100 km. The system power output of the model is more than 240 kW/300 hp, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a shade over 6.0 seconds.

BMW iX's body structure, featuring an aluminum spaceframe and innovative Carbon Cage, can claim extremely high torsional stiffness, which in turn enhances agility and maximizes occupant protection, while minimizing weight. The vehicle boasts outstanding aerodynamics for its class, with a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.25.

In terms of design, the BMW iX is comparable with the BMW X5 in length and width, and is almost the same height as the BMW X6 on account of its flowing roofline. The size of its wheels, meanwhile, brings to mind the BMW X7. We're sure the vertical kidney grille on the front will be the most discussed design detail of the 2021 BMW iX. BMW has already explained that it serves as an intelligence panel. Camera technology, radar functions and other sensors are integrated seamlessly into the grille behind a transparent surface. It is developed and produced at the BMW Group's LuTZ lightweight design and technology centre in Landshut.

An array of other cameras and sensors are likewise positioned discreetly, the door openers are flush, the filler neck for the windscreen washer fluid is concealed under the BMW logo on the bonnet and the rear-view camera has been integrated into the BMW logo on the tailgate. The technology stays in the background and only becomes apparent as and when the relevant functions are called into action.

The interior offers a high level of spaciousness, a mixture of high-quality materials, newly developed seats with integral head restraints and an exceptionally large panoramic glass roof for a luxurious, lounge-like ambiance. There is no center tunnel, adding to the open, airy feel while also allowing extra legroom in the front and rear, sufficient space for storage facilities, and a center console crafted to look like a high-quality piece of furniture.

The shy tech approach for the interior can be seen in a number of features, including speakers integrated out of sight, intricately styled air vents, heated surfaces and the discreet recessing of the BMW Head-Up Display's projector into the instrument panel so it is almost invisible. The hexagonally shaped steering wheel, a rocker switch for gear selection and the BMW Curved Display - which forms part of the next-generation BMW Operating System - clearly advertise the futuristic form of driving pleasure on offer.

The BMW iX will go into production at BMW Plant Dingolfing from the second half of 2021 as the BMW Group’s new technology flagship. It will arrive with the fifth generation BMW eDrive technology for improved efficiency and longer range. The power unit developed by the BMW Group has been manufactured sustainably without the use of critical raw materials known as rare earths.

In Germany, the 2022 BMW iX xDrive40 will be available from 77,300 EUR and the BMW iX xDrive50 from 98,000 EUR.
