Volkswagen ID. Polo debuts Volkswagen's new cockpit generation

Volkswagen has unveiled the interior of the all‑new ID. Polo, offering the first detailed look at a cockpit concept that will shape the brand’s future electric models. The company describes the redesign as a holistic, customer‑driven approach focused on clarity, quality and intuitive operation. Alongside the new hardware layout, a next‑generation software platform introduces additional functions, while a playful retro display mode brings the aesthetic of the 1980s Golf into the digital age.
The ID. Polo continues Volkswagen's long‑standing strategy of delivering comfort and material quality that exceed expectations for the small‑car segment. The new "Pure Positive" design language is expressed through fabric‑covered dashboard and door surfaces, soft‑touch materials and a warm, inviting ambience. Volkswagen says the tactile experience of buttons, controls and handles has been deliberately refined to create a friendlier, more premium atmosphere.
A major focus of the redesign is improved usability. The cockpit adopts clearer information structures, more direct‑access buttons and operating logic that builds on familiar Volkswagen patterns. Two large displays define the horizontal architecture: a 10.25‑inch digital instrument cluster positioned behind the steering wheel and a nearly 13‑inch central infotainment touchscreen. Both feature high‑resolution graphics, and the central display is angled for easy reach by both driver and passenger. Below it, Volkswagen has reinstated dedicated physical controls for climate functions and hazard lights.
The steering wheel is entirely new, featuring simplified, clearly delineated button zones. Between the smartphone tray and cup holders sits a rotary controller for audio functions, allowing quick adjustments to volume, tracks and radio stations. Volkswagen's ID.Light technology has also been expanded. The illuminated communication strip now stretches across the base of the windscreen and, for the first time, continues into the front doors, enhancing both ambience and driver feedback.
One of the most distinctive touches is the so‑called "Secret Sauce": a retro display mode that transforms the digital cockpit into graphics inspired by the first‑generation Golf. Activated via a steering‑wheel button or the infotainment menu, the feature is designed to create an emotional link between Volkswagen's heritage and its electric future.
With the ID. Polo, Volkswagen signals a clear direction for its next wave of electric vehicles - one that blends modern digital interfaces with tactile familiarity, elevated materials and a touch of nostalgia.
