Hyundai makes the IONIQ a separate brand for EVs on the E-GMP platform, will launch 3 modelsHyundai announced that the IONIQ is now a separate brand dedicated to battery electric vehicles. "The IONIQ brand will change the paradigm of EV customer experience," said Wonhong Cho, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Hyundai Motor Company. "With a new emphasis on connected living, we will offer electrified experiences integral to an eco-friendly lifestyle."

In early 2021, Hyundai will introduce the IONIQ 5 - a midsize CUV based on the 45 self-driving EV concept which was announced at the IAA 2019 in Frankfurt. In 2022, Hyundai will introduce IONIQ 6 sedan based on the company's latest concept EV Prophecy, which was unveiled in March 2020. In 2024, Hyundai will present the IONIQ 7 - a large SUV, also based on the Prophecy concept.

The common design feature of all models will be subjected to the "Timeless Value+ theme. The vehicles will be inspired by past models, but they will be a bridge to the future. They will also sit on Hyundai's E-GMP (Electric Global Modular) platform that will enable fast charging capability, plentiful driving range, and s smart interior with highly adjustable seats, wireless connectivity and unique features such as a glove box designed as drawers. The platform paradigm shift will extend into the user interfaces that will be simple, intuitive and ergonomically designed to help occupants feel at ease.

Hyundai announced that the group aims to sell 1 million units of battery electric vehicles and take 10% share to become a leader in the global EV field by 2025. Under Strategy 2025, Hyundai itself aims to become the world's third-largest automaker of eco-friendly vehicles by 2025, with 560,000 BEV sales in addition to FCEV sales.

Hyundai has celebrated the launch of IONIQ by turning the London Eye into a giant letter "Q" using electric lights just before the official reopening of the famous attraction. This marks the first event of the 'I'm in Charge' brand campaign, which promotes the empowerment of the environment and diverse lifestyles through IONIQ.
