All-new 2026 Nissan LEAF hits the road

The Nissan LEAF, once a trailblazer as the world's first mass-market electric vehicle in Europe back in 2011, is making a bold return in its third generation. Launched in Copenhagen, the all-new LEAF arrives with a striking new design, a suite of advanced technologies, and an impressive range of up to 622 kilometers - placing it firmly among the top contenders in the segment.

Designed in Japan and manufactured in the UK, the LEAF's aerodynamic crossover styling isn't just visually compelling - it's engineered for efficiency. With a drag coefficient of just 0.25, the car's flowing lines and sculpted surfaces contribute directly to its remarkable range. Details such as flush-mounted door handles, a distinctive 3D tail light signature, and a dimming panoramic roof with subtle LEAF branding enhance its presence on the road. Optional 19-inch alloy wheels add a sporty touch, while the cabin offers generous space, including up to 437 liters of cargo capacity. Seven expressive color choices, including the signature Luminous Teal, allow drivers to personalize their LEAF to suit their lifestyle.

Inside, the LEAF is designed with both comfort and customization in mind. Owners can choose from a wide array of accessories, from practical additions like protective bumper films and reversible trunk liners to stylish upgrades such as illuminated kick plates and carbon-look mirror caps. For added convenience, features such as a drive video recorder and EV cable storage bag enhance everyday usability, while options like a removable towbar and roof crossbars make it easy to gear up for weekend adventures.

Under the hood, the LEAF offers two battery options: a 52 kWh pack delivering over 440 kilometers of range, and a 75 kWh version capable of reaching up to 622 kilometers under WLTP standards. Even at highway speeds - 330 kilometers at 130 km/h or 430 kilometers at 110 km/h - the LEAF maintains impressive endurance. When it’s time to recharge, the 150kW DC fast charging system can recover up to 420 kilometers in just 30 minutes. The vehicle also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing drivers to power small devices or camping gear directly from the car, and is future-ready for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) energy sharing.

Built on Nissan's CMF-EV modular platform, shared with the Ariya, the LEAF delivers a smooth and agile driving experience. Its suspension system - MacPherson struts in the front and a multi-link setup in the rear—ensures comfort across city streets and highways alike. Driver-focused features include e-Pedal Step for intuitive one-pedal driving, ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link for adaptive cruise control, and a 3D Around View Monitor that offers an eight-point perspective, including Invisible Hood View and Front Wide View for navigating tight urban spaces. Regenerative braking with paddle shifters and distance control assist further enhance efficiency and control.

Performance-wise, the LEAF is powered by a refined electric motor producing 160 kW and 355 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds. With energy consumption as low as 13.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, it delivers both responsiveness and efficiency.

Safety remains a priority, with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features including Intelligent Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Intervention, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Keep Assist. These systems work together to provide confidence in all driving conditions, while the advanced camera views make parking and maneuvering easier than ever. The LEAF integrates NissanConnect with Google built-in, offering seamless access to Google Maps with route planning, Google Assistant for voice control, and the Play Store for apps and entertainment. Inside, twin 14.3-inch screens create a fully digital cockpit, and the NissanConnect Services app allows remote access to battery status, climate control, and trip planning.

Production of the new LEAF will begin in Sunderland, UK, using 20% renewable energy. Pre-orders are expected to open before the end of the year, with first deliveries scheduled for spring 2026.
