Smart #1 made by Mercedes and Geely debuted in Berlin

The biggest smart yet, Smart #1, has, actually, no relation to the previous smart fortwo and smart forfour EVs. Built as a joined initiative between Mercedes-Benz (design) and Geely (development), it happens to be the first European EV based on Geely's new SEA s the first European electric vehicle that features Geely’s new SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) EV platform. Geely's Zeekr 001 is also based on it.

The Smart #1 packs a 66 kWh NCM battery ensuring an WLTP driving range of 420-440 km (273 mi). The battery supports 150 kW DC fast charging and can recharge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. The vehicle has a RWD system with a 272 hp motor and 343 Nm torque. The top speed of the electric crossover is limited to 180 km/h. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration takes 6.7 seconds. is also based on it.

The Smart #1 is the largest vehicle made by the brand so far. It is 4270 mm long, 1822 mm wide, and 1636 mm tall, with a 2750 mm wheelbase. The volume of the trunk varies from 323 l to 411 l, while the front trunk has a capacity of 15 l, enough for the charging cable.

In terms of design, the production version is slightly smaller than the prototype which debuted in 2021. There's also a front apron with side air ducts, normal mirror bodies, and 19" wheels instead of 21" ones. The rear doors also differ from the prototype ones. The matrix lights on the front with the LED band and the design of the taillights plus the panorama sunroof are preserved.

The interior resembles that of the prototype with the console being separated from the front seats, a 12.8-inch touch screen, 9.2-inch instrument panel. However, on the back, there are no separate seats but a foldable bench with a foldable armrest and cup holder.

The Smart #1 has an optional Smart Pilot system including adaptive cruise control, stop & go function, acoustic audoip system with 13 speakers, 7 airbags, and a 64-shade ambient light system. The vehicle will be sold in China and in Europe but pricing has not been revealed yet.
