CATL's EV battery plant in Germany - CATT - kicks off battery cell productionOn April 6 earlier this year, CATL received the second permit for its battery cell production plant in Thuringia, Germany. Today, CATL announced that the plant has kicked off serial production of lithium-ion battery cells in December as scheduled. This is the brand's first facility outside of China. Dubbed CATT, the plant consists of two buildings: G1, an existing building purchased from another company where cells are assembled into modules, and G2, a newly-built plant by CATT and where cells will be produced. The initial capacity is 8 GWh per year. The locally produced cells passed all tests that are required of CATL's products globally, which proves CATL is capable of starting cell production and supplying cells to its European customers from its local plant. With a total investment of up to 1.8 billion Euro, CATL plans to achieve a production capacity of 14GWh and create up to 2,000 new jobs in total within Germany in the future.
