Stellantis invests £100 million in its Ellesmere Port plat for battery electric LCVs

Stellantis invests £100 million in its Ellesmere Port plat for battery electric LCVsStellantis today announced a £100 million investment in Vauxhall's production plant at Ellesmere Port to transform the site for the new era of electric vehicle manufacturing. At the end of next year, Ellesmere Port will be the first Stellantis plant to produce exclusively purely battery-electric models both in the light commercial vehicle version and in the passenger car version for the Vauxhall, Opel, Peugeot and Citroën brands – for the domestic and export markets. This decision to produce battery-electric vehicles will help to achieve the UK government's target of halting the sale of pure petrol and diesel engines from 2030.

Stellantis' investment in the Ellesmere Port site will build on performance optimization measures made possible by the joint efforts of the company, the Unite union and the workforce to transform the plant.

Stellantis' strong commitment to ensure a sustainable future for Ellesmere Port has been consistently supported by the UK Government, Cheshire West and Chester Council, the Partnership between Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise and Chester College.

In this new era of manufacturing, the plant in Ellesmere Port will be made "fit for the future" with a new body shop, a modernized prefabricated/final assembly, a compaction of the site area and the creation of a battery pack assembly on site. In addition, there will be further support to help the plant make its way to CO by the middle of this decade.2neutrality. The plant is to become 100% self-sufficient and work on potential wind and solar parks will begin shortly.

Stellantis has also announced its intention to discuss further investments in the Ellesmere Port site to create a new UK parts distribution centre.

Starting next year, Ellesmere Port will build the following all-electric vehicles:
