U.S.-bound Kia EV3 debuts at the New York International Auto Show

Kia introduced the all‑new 2027 EV3 at the New York International Auto Show, positioning the compact electric SUV as the most attainable member of its expanding EV family while packing many of the comforts and technologies found in larger models. "The Kia EV3 represents a bold step forward in our commitment to making electric mobility accessible to more Americans," the company said, describing a vehicle that blends a striking geometric design with a roomy, tech‑forward interior.

The EV3 is built on Kia's 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E‑GMP) and will be offered in five trims - Light, Wind, Land, GT‑Line, and GT - when it goes on sale in late 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. Kia estimates the EV3 can deliver up to 320 miles of range on certain trims when equipped with the long‑range battery, while the base battery is rated for about 220 miles.

Kia emphasized that the EV3 is designed to appeal across generations by balancing affordability, utility and maneuverability. The exterior follows the brand’s Opposites United design language and borrows visual cues from the EV9, including a star‑map daytime running light motif, flush roof rails, hidden rear door handles and available 19‑inch wheels on higher trims. A U.S.‑only Nightfall black appearance package will be offered on select versions.

Inside, the EV3 aims for a "home‑like" cabin with a standard panoramic display made up of dual 12.3‑inch screens and a 5‑inch climate display, an open center console with flexible storage, and rear seats that recline up to 39 degrees. Cargo capacity is competitive for the class, with 56.5 cubic feet behind the first row, 26.1 cubic feet behind the second row, underfloor storage, and a 0.9 cubic‑foot frunk. Optional features include heated and ventilated front seats, multicolor ambient lighting and a Smart Power Liftgate.

On the powertrain front, the EV3 offers two battery options: a standard 58.3 kWh pack for the Light trim and an 81.4 kWh long‑range pack for Wind, Land, GT‑Line and GT. The smaller battery powers the front wheels only; the larger pack enables all‑wheel drive (optional on some trims and standard on GT‑Line and GT). The performance‑oriented GT produces 288 horsepower and benefits from sport‑tuned suspension and steering. Kia reports a drag coefficient of 0.275 Cd thanks to aerodynamic refinements and lightweight materials.

Fast‑charging capability is competitive: Kia estimates the EV3 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 29 minutes with the 58.3 kWh battery and about 31 minutes with the 81.4 kWh battery. The EV3 also includes a native NACS charging port and supports Kia’s Plug and Charge feature for simplified station authentication.

Kia loaded the EV3 with convenience and connectivity features more commonly found in larger, pricier models. The vehicle debuts Kia's Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) with over‑the‑air update capability, available video streaming and app services, a voice‑recognition AI assistant, Digital Key 2.0, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and optional premium audio and a head‑up display. Safety and driver‑assist systems include Forward Collision Avoidance with junction‑turning and junction‑crossing applications, Highway Driving Assist 2, and parking aids such as Remote Smart Parking Assist.

Beyond everyday convenience, the EV3 offers practical electrified features: available Vehicle‑to‑Load (V2L) functionality to power external devices and optional Vehicle‑to‑Home (V2H) capability via a bidirectional Wallbox system to feed energy back to a home during peak periods or outages. Kia also highlighted its i‑Pedal 3.0 system and adaptive Smart Regeneration to improve single‑pedal driving and energy recapture.

Kia says the EV3 is intended as a right‑sized, approachable entry point to electric mobility for a broad range of buyers, from first‑time EV shoppers to families seeking a compact, tech‑rich SUV. The company will release final pricing as the late‑2026 on‑sale date approaches.
