Hyundai unveils the all‑new IONIQ 3 at Milan Design Week 2026

21 April 2026, 16:42:11

Hyundai unveils the all‑new IONIQ 3 at Milan Design Week 2026Hyundai Motor Europe has revealed the IONIQ 3, a fully electric compact hatchback designed specifically around the everyday needs of European drivers. Introduced during Milan Design Week 2026, the new model expands the IONIQ lineup with a fresh "Aero Hatch" body style that blends aerodynamic efficiency with generous interior space. According to Hyundai, the IONIQ 3 is engineered to make electric mobility "intuitive, comfortable and relevant for everyday European needs," combining bold design, simple technology, and a spacious cabin.

The IONIQ 3 debuts a new silhouette defined by a low, sleek front end and a straight roofline that maximises headroom before tapering into a clean rear spoiler. This geometry supports both efficiency and comfort, contributing to a projected drag coefficient of 0.263. Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design philosophy shapes the exterior with strong, precise surfaces, while signature pixel lighting and four central dots referencing the letter "H" in Morse code reinforce the IONIQ identity.

Inside, the model introduces a "Furnished Space" concept that arranges interior elements like pieces of furniture to create a warm, intuitive environment. A long wheelbase and flat floor deliver upper‑segment roominess, with enough width to comfortably seat three adults in the rear. Materials draw inspiration from natural landscapes and 1970s Italian furniture design, incorporating recycled and bio‑based textiles. Depending on trim, features include Relaxation Seats, heated and ventilated seating, ambient LED lighting, and a BOSE Premium Sound System. The luggage compartment offers 441 litres of capacity, supported by an additional Megabox storage area beneath the trunk floor.

The IONIQ 3 is the first Hyundai model in Europe to feature the new Pleos Connect infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS. Available with 12.9‑inch or 14.6‑inch displays, it delivers sharp graphics, intuitive controls, and extensive customisation. Hyundai Digital Key 2 enables smartphone‑ or wearable‑based access, while Plug & Charge, an integrated EV route planner, and vehicle‑to‑load functionality simplify daily electric use. Under optimal conditions, DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent takes around 29 minutes, complemented by AC charging capability of up to 22 kW.

Built on the Electric‑Global Modular Platform (E‑GMP), the IONIQ 3 offers two battery options with projected WLTP ranges of 344 km for the Standard Range model and up to 496 km for the Long Range version. Power outputs reach up to 107.8 kW (147 PS) with 250 Nm of torque, and top speed is rated at 170 km/h. Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance systems include Highway Driving Assist 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist, Blind‑Spot View Monitor, and a full suite of safety technologies supported by seven airbags.

Designed in Europe and produced at Hyundai's İzmit plant in Türkiye, the IONIQ 3 is positioned as a practical, stylish, and technologically advanced EV for young families and urban drivers. With its combination of aerodynamic design, spacious interior, intuitive technology, and efficient electric performance, Hyundai aims to set a new benchmark for compact electric mobility in the region.
