2026 Dacia Spring arrives with an updated platform and two new motors

2026 Dacia Spring arrives with an updated platform and two new motorsDacia Spring has consistently delivered on its promise to democratize electric mobility, and the 2026 iteration marks a bold leap forward in performance, design, and digital experience - without straying from its core value of affordability. Since its launch in 2021, the Spring has sold over 179,000 units across Europe, with more than 17,000 vehicles sold in 2026 alone. This success has secured its position as the second-best-selling electric vehicle in the European retail market across segments A, B, and B-SUV, underscoring its appeal to everyday drivers seeking practical, zero-emission transport. The Spring's evolution has been steady and deliberate. In 2022, it adopted Dacia's new brand identity. In 2023, it introduced a more efficient 65 hp powertrain. By 2024, it underwent a major transformation with a refreshed design and a more digital cockpit. Now, the Spring takes another significant step forward, offering a more refined driving experience, enhanced safety, and greater versatility for daily use.

At the heart of this upgrade is a reengineered platform that improves structural rigidity and weight distribution, thanks to a new battery housed in the reinforced central section. These changes enhance the vehicle's balance and road handling. Braking performance has been boosted with more powerful assistance, and the standard 15-inch wheels from the Expression trim upward contribute to improved grip and stability. For the first time, the Spring features an anti-roll bar across all versions, complemented by retuned shock absorbers and suspension springs that sharpen cornering dynamics.

Aerodynamic enhancements also play a key role in the Spring's performance gains. New fairings at the front, sides, and rear reduce turbulence beneath the car, while a redesigned rear spoiler minimizes airflow disruption around the tailgate. These refinements result in a notable improvement in SCx drag coefficient: 0.660 with 14-inch wheels and 0.665 with 15-inch wheels, compared to previous figures of 0.745 and 0.743, respectively.

Powertrain options have been completely overhauled. The previous 45 hp and 65 hp units have been replaced by two new motors: a 70 hp (52 kW) and a 100 hp (75 kW) variant. These deliver up to 20% more torque between 80 and 120 km/h, allowing the Spring to integrate more naturally into highway traffic. Acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h has improved dramatically, with the 100 hp version achieving it in just 6.9 seconds, the 70 hp in 10.3 seconds, compared to 14.0 seconds for the outgoing 65 hp and a sluggish 26.2 seconds for the 45 hp model.

These new motors are paired with a 24.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, a first for the Renault Group. This battery offers improved thermal safety, longer lifespan, and lower cost. Despite these upgrades, the Spring remains the lightest four-seater EV on the market, weighing around one tonne. This contributes to its real-world range of 225 km (WLTP combined cycle on 15-inch wheels), which is more than sufficient for the average user's daily travel of 34 km across four trips.

Charging has also been optimized. A new 40 kW DC fast charger, available as an option on Expression and Extreme trims depending on the country, enables charging from 20% to 80% in just 29 minutes. The standard 7 kW AC charger now completes a full charge from 20% to 100% in 3 hours and 20 minutes on a wall box, and 10 hours and 11 minutes on a domestic socket.

True to Dacia's philosophy, the Spring remains eco-smart, robust, and user-friendly. It continues to be the most affordable electric car on the market, starting at €16,900, with all variants priced under €20,000. Its rugged design includes mass-tainted plastic parts and, in the Extreme trim, rubber mats and door sills for added durability. The Spring also boasts the best boot volume in its class—308 litres, expandable to 1,004 litres with the rear seats folded—rivaling even B-segment vehicles. Interior storage is generous, offering over 32 litres across the glove box, center console, and door bins.

The Spring now supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing users to power external devices directly from the car. Inside, the digital experience has been elevated with a standard 7-inch digital instrument cluster across all trims. The Essential and Expression trims feature the Media Control system, which integrates with the Dacia Media Control app for seamless smartphone-based media and navigation management. The Extreme trim adds a 10.1-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and offers Media Nav Live with real-time traffic updates and continuously refreshed European maps for eight years.

Dacia's clever YouClip accessory system is standard across the range, with three anchor points in the cabin that can hold a variety of modular accessories—from phone holders and induction chargers to a multifunctional "3-in-1" device combining a cup holder, bag hook, and flashlight.

The 2026 Spring is available in three trims. The Essential trim, powered by the 70 hp motor, includes features like cruise control, rear parking sensors, and a USB port. The Expression trim adds manual air conditioning and 15-inch wheels. The Extreme trim, equipped with the 100 hp motor, offers copper-colored accents, power mirrors and rear windows, dual USB ports, and the full Media Display system.

With its blend of affordability, practicality, and now significantly improved performance and connectivity, the Dacia Spring 2026 continues to prove that electric mobility can be both accessible and exciting.
