SEAT unveils the all-electric 2021 Cupra El Born, invests 5 billion euros in R&D by 2025

SEAT has unveiled the all-electric 2021 Cupra El Born based on the MEB platform. Unfortunately, there are no detailed specifications. The only certain thing is a 77 kWh battery version of the model (we suppose there will be other versions as well). Even the rear-mounted electric motor's power has not been unveiled. The targeted driving range is 500 km (~310 mi). The 0-50 km/h acceleration is 2.9 s.

The 2021 Cupra El Born is the ID.3 the way SEAT imagines it. The two models are very similar but there are differences as well. On the outside, El Born is a bit more aggressive. It has bronze accents inside and outside, new wheel and deeper side sills. The interior features sporty bucket seats, different materials, a new steering wheel, raised center console. The ID.3 and Cupra El Born will be produced at VW's Zwickau factory.

In addition to the 2021 Cupra El Born, SEAT announced 5-billion euros investment into its R&D projects by 2025 as it focuses on further electrification of its model line-up. The significant investment will go towards vehicle development at SEAT's Technical Centre, particularly towards electrifying the range, as well as equipment and facilities at the Martorell, Barcelona and Componentes plants.
