Samsung SDI to supply cylinder batteries to General MotorsAccording to The Elec, Samsung SDI will supply cylinder batteries for EVs to General Motors. For the purpose, the two companies will establish a joint venture that will build a battery factory with an annual capacity of 30GWh. So far, GM has been using pouch batteries from LG Energy Solution but last month it said it considers all types of cells. Samsung SDI has already announced its plans to invest 40 trillion won during the next ten years in cathode provided by Posco Chemicals. The latter has a JV with GM called Ultiu Chem. It is from Ultium Chem that the cathode for Samsung SDI's battery cells will come.Source
