But the billion-dollar project of Gigafactory 4 (GF4) in the eastern outskirts of Berlin is not throttled. Quite the contrary, Steinbach emphasized. The importance of the production site in the group plans is increasing. "There is a very clear signal from Tesla to continue to push the project forward with the greatest possible consistency." Tesla wants to expand its supply chains in the future more independently.

When the first electric cars roll off the assembly line in Grünheide in 2021, it won't be the full capacity of the factory, said Steinbach. So far, the start of production was announced for summer 2021. Steinbach avoided such an appointment. In the first stage, for which Tesla has applied for approval, 500,000 electric cars are to be produced annually for the European market. According to Steinbach, this stage involves an investment of over four billion euros and 12,000 jobs. And that is just the beginning."
