Subaru of America has pulled the wraps off its most powerful production model to date, debuting the all‑new, all‑electric 2027 Subaru Getaway at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. Positioned as the brand’s next major step in its expanding EV strategy, the three‑row SUV blends family‑focused practicality with the kind of performance Subaru fans don't usually associate with a seven‑seater.

The Getaway delivers a combined 420 horsepower from dual electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles, launching the SUV from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds. Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All‑Wheel Drive comes standard, paired with 8.3 inches of ground clearance and the X‑MODE Dual‑Mode System, giving the electric newcomer genuine off‑road capability. The model is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds, reinforcing its role as a versatile adventure vehicle.

A long‑range 95.8‑kWh lithium‑ion battery will be available at launch, offering more than 300 miles of driving on a single charge. Subaru has equipped the Getaway with a standard NACS charging port, opening access to over 25,000 Superchargers across North America. Charging speeds reach up to 150 kW, enabling a 10 to 80 percent recharge in roughly 30 minutes. A built‑in battery preconditioning system ensures consistent charging performance even in cold climates. Subaru also confirmed that a standard‑range version with a 77 kWh battery will join the lineup in 2027.

Inside, the Getaway emphasizes comfort and convenience for families. Depending on trim, the SUV seats six or seven passengers, with generous headroom and legroom across all three rows. One‑touch folding second‑row seats and a power‑folding third row simplify access and cargo flexibility. With the third row down, the Getaway offers 45.6 cubic feet of cargo space - more than the Kia EV9 - while 15.9 cubic feet remain available with all seats upright. Amenities include USB‑C ports in every row, three‑zone climate control, dedicated third‑row vents, customizable ambient lighting, and an available panoramic moonroof.

Subaru's next‑generation EV design language shapes the exterior, highlighted by a six‑star illuminated logo, dynamic daytime running lights, and a distinctive rear lighting signature. Flush door handles and clean bodylines improve aerodynamics, while expressive 19‑ or 20‑inch wheels vary by trim. Ladder‑type roof rails come standard on most versions, reinforcing the SUV’s adventure‑ready identity.

Technology takes center stage in the cabin with a standard 14‑inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen and a 12.3‑inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with available dual 15W wireless chargers. Five drive modes, including a customizable individual setting, allow drivers to tailor the vehicle’s dynamics.

Every Getaway comes equipped with Subaru's latest EyeSight driver‑assistance suite, featuring Pre‑Collision Braking, Blind Spot Monitors, Lane Departure Alert, Emergency Stop Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Higher trims add Front Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Park Assist, and a digital rearview mirror.
