BYD will supply Daimler with Blade Batteries

11 September 2020, 04:12:20

BYD will supply Daimler with Blade BatteriesThe Elec reports that BYD is planning to supply Daimler with its lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) batteries. These are the brand's Blade Batteries without modules that have higher energy density compared to their counterparts with modules and match the energy density of NCM batteries. Ultimately, this increases the average EV range per charge by 100 km. In general, LFP batteries are able to provide arou8nd 300 km of range. Compared to NCM batteries, the LFP ones have lower density and are heavier. However, they are more stable and offer faster charging time. They don't use cobalt.

Previously, CATL has announced a similar battery solution called "cell to pack" (CTP) to win orders from Tesla in China. BYD is also preparing for supplying BLade Batteries to Ford. In April, it also made a JV with Toyota for next-generation batteries. Recently, the company built a third factory located in Brazil.Source
