LG Chem will produce up to 40GWh of EV batteries in China by the end of 2019Korean media report that by the end of 2019, LG Chem will produce up to 40GWh of EV batteries in China by the end of 2019. This comprises 56% of the total EV battery production of LG Chem. Currently, the Chinese factories of the company produce 7.2GWh (not counting the cylindrical-type produced in Factory 1 in Nanjing). When Factory 2 starts working next month, the production capacity will jump to 39.2GWh. LG Chem aims to produce 70GWh EV batteries and for next year, this should rise to 100GWh after the Polish factory enters operation towards the end of 2020. Industry experts said, "LG Chem, Samsung SDI, and SK Innovation are also contributing to the Chinese electric car battery market." CATL and BYD, the first and second-largest Chinese battery markets, are also expanding their investments to protect their domestic battery market. Competition will be fierce."Source
