SK Innovations new NCM battery (9½½) will power the all-electric Ford F-150 pickup truck

Based on industry sources, Southe Korean news outlet ETnews reports that SK Innovation will become the world's first battery maker to commercialize NCM batteries that contain 90% nickel. Cobalt will account for 5%, so will manganese. The new battery's formula looks like this - 9½½. It is expected to offer a longer driving range - up to 700 km, and shorter charging time. Moreover, the sources said that these batteries will power the all-electric Ford F-150 pickup truck.

SK Innovation competitors from South Korea are also planning such batteries with LG Chem being two years ahead in commercializing them. Starting next year, LG Chem will supply NCMA (nickel cobalt manganese aluminum) batteries that contain 90% nickel to General Motors. Currently, it is supplying NCM 811 batteries to Tesla Model 3 sedans manufactured in China. Samsung SDI is expected to mass-produce Gen5 batteries that contain more than 80% nickel and can offer a driving range over 600 km starting next year.Source
