BMW iX3, MINI Paul Smith Edition make their Japanese debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025

BMW iX3, MINI Paul Smith Edition make their Japanese debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025BMW and MINI will headline dynamic exhibits at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, running October 31 through November 9, 2025, showcasing next‑generation vehicles and systems including the first Neue Klasse model, the BMW iX3, new hydrogen fuel cell developments, and a fresh MINI lineup highlighted by a Paul Smith special edition.

The event will mark the Asian debut of the BMW iX3 and present a suite of technologies that signal the company’s direction over the coming years. Attendees will be able to see how the iX3 advances electric driving, user interfaces, digital services, connectivity, styling, and environmental thinking. Many of the technical gains introduced with the Neue Klasse will be carried across future BMW models, independent of powertrain choice.

Japan production of the BMW iX3 is planned to begin in March 2026, with Japanese dealerships expected to start deliveries in the second half of 2026. The iX3 introduces a new, tech-forward BMW aesthetic and a redesigned cockpit experience centered on the BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Panoramic Vision running on BMW Operating System X. A zonal electronics setup with four high-performance computers creates the foundation for a software-first vehicle, and one of those units—nicknamed the Heart of Joy—uses BMW’s in-house Dynamic Performance Control to shape handling from low speeds to peak performance. The iX3 debuts sixth-generation eDrive hardware, cylindrical battery cells, and new electric motors, delivering meaningful step-changes in capability. With up to 400 kW peak charging, the car can recover roughly 372 km of range in ten minutes, and bidirectional charging allows it to supply power externally.

Maintaining a broad product mix remains central to BMW’s strategy. The group continues to offer internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, battery-electric models, and, starting in 2028 with the BMW iX5 Hydrogen, hydrogen fuel cell powertrains to meet diverse customer needs around the world. BMW's hydrogen initiative uses a third-generation fuel cell developed in collaboration with Toyota. The design is more compact while boosting efficiency and output, extending range and reducing energy use. Prototype development is underway at BMW competence centers in Munich and at Plant Steyr, with Plant Landshut producing supplementary components for the drive system.

Designer Paul Smith first collaborated with MINI in 1998, and the relationship has produced several creative projects since. At the Japan Mobility Show 2025 MINI will unveil the new MINI Paul Smith Edition, a special model that applies Paul Smith’s signature "classic with a twist" aesthetic to the MINI Cooper family, pairing the designer's refined details with MINI’s energetic personality.

The MINI Paul Smith Edition is distinguished by exclusive paint options such as Nottingham Green and the Paul Smith signature stripe integrated into the exterior styling. Standard equipment includes 18-inch Night Flash Spoke black alloy wheels with Dark Steel accents, branded wheel trim signatures, and a black horizontal boot lid handle. The edition will be offered on the MINI Cooper 3-Door, 5-Door, and MINI Cooper Convertible. Fully electric versions of the Paul Smith Edition will go on sale worldwide at the show's world premiere, while orders for internal combustion variants will open in the first quarter of 2026.
