Polestar 2 has left San Francisco heading to Los AngelesPolestar 2's North America tour is on full swing. After visiting Seattle at the end of Jule and San Francisco from August 9-11, the all-electric fastback has set its lights on Los Angeles, where it will reside later this week for three days - August 16-18. The US tour will finish at San Diego at the end of this month. The vehicle will also visit Canada - Toronto and Vancouver, in September but the exact dates are to be announced.

These six locations are where the Polestar 2 will be initially available for sale with the first deliveries being scheduled for Q2 of 2020 [year edited]. The model has already been on pre-order from the start of 2019 and this tour is a good chance for US and Canadian reservation holders to experience from first hand the vehicle.

Polestar 2 is a four-door fastback with a panoramic sunroof. It is equipped with a 78 kWh battery consisting of 324 cells in 27 modules, which provides a WLTP range of 500 km. The battery is sealed in an aluminium case. It is fitted under the floor at the base of the vehicle to form a super-stiff car body, which is also crucial for the agile sporty driving style of the car. There are two identical motors - one on the front and one on the back, each with 150 kW power and 300 Nm torque. Hence, the total power and torque measure 300 kW and 660 Nm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration is less than 5 seconds.

Polestar 2 has improved pixel LED headlamps and side mirrors. The mirrors are enlarged while offering less air resistance. The car has four additional antennas in each of the four corners for improved communications. You can unlock it from a distance with your smartphone via Bluetooth. The "start button" is embedded in the seat - once the car recognizes you, it will switch on immediately. No key needed. The vehicle features an 11-inch screen fitted in portrait mode to the right of the vehicle.

Polestar 2 is the first production EV model to arrive with Google's Android Human Machine Interface. The latter integrates Google Assistant, Maps, Play Store, and of course - offers regular OTA updates. As long as it concerns security during a collision, Polestar's engineers have come up with a part they call "spock". It is fitted on the two front sides of the body and protects both the battery pack and the interior by driving off all heavy parts away. For the interior, Polestar uses a special cloth called WeaveTech - water-repellent and lighter than leather. Midnight, Magnesium, Snow, Thunder, Moon and Void are the available exterior colors. There's a performance package available with Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes and unique 20-inch forged wheels.

The launch edition of Polestar 2 in the US will cost $63,000 and when the federal incentive of $7,500 is taken out, the US price drops to $55,500. Production will start in February 2020.

Polestar 2 is positioned as a direct competitor to Tesla Model 3. When we have the full list of official Polestar 2 specifications, we will add them duly. Meanwhile, you can check out the specifications of Model 3 and other Tesla models.
