SK Innovation became the fifth largest EV battery supplier in AprilIn April 2020, SK Innovation entered the global Top 5 in the EV battery market for the first time. SK Innovation said that according to SNE Research, the company had a 3.5% market share by supplying 189.1 MWh of batteries. Samsung SDI was sixth with 3.4% market share by deploying 187.2 MWh in April. LG Chem was second with 18.2% market share and 988.1 MWh deployed. In the January-April period, LG Chem, Samsung SDI and SK Innovation had 25.5%, 5.6% and 4.2% market share, ranking first, fifth and seventh, respectively.

Meanwhile, according to SNE Research, the global electric vehicle battery usage in April 2020 was 5.4 GWh, down 39.8% from the same period last year. While the US and European markets contracted significantly due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the main reason for the decrease was that the Chinese market still remained stagnant.
