SAIC-GM and CATL launch the industry's first 6C ultra-fast charging lithium iron phosphate battery

SAIC-GM announced on China's QQ network that they jointly launched with CATL the industry's first 6C ultra-fast charging lithium iron phosphate battery, setting a new technological benchmark.

The first innovation in the 6C battery is the super-electronic network cathode technology built with fully nano-based ferromagnetic acid materials that improve the efficiency of electrochemical reactions and enhance the charging efficiency while improving the stability of the battery performance.

Secondly, the 6C battery uses a second-generation graphite fast ion ring technology. With its multi-layered pole pieces, it creates a "highway" for current conduction significantly shortening the charge and discharge time. At the same time, a higher energy density and a higher cycle stability were reached.

Thirdly, the 6C battery uses an ultra-high conductivity solution formula. It effectively improves the conductivity and reduces the viscosity of the electrolyte while enhancing the desolvation ability of lithium ions. This further improves the electrochemical stability and safety of the battery cell.

Fourthly, the 6C battery employs a nano-scale ultra-thin solid electrolyte interface (SEI) membrane. It reduces the internal resistance of the battery and improves the charging power and efficiency. At the same time, less heat is generated during charging and discharging ultimately improving thermal stability.

Finally, a high-porosity separator (isolation film) is used to improve the transmission rate of bond ion liquid transfer. This further brings a qualitative leap in charging speed.

The new 6C battery by SAIC-GM and CATL will be used next year on the newly upgraded Autonen smart power platform using a new quasi-900V high-voltage battery architecture, unlocking a more efficient and convenient ultra-fast charging experience.
