Tesla Model S Plaid unveiled at a delivery event in Fremont
11 June 2021, 01:47:32

Presented as the "quickest production car ever", the Tesla Model S Plaid accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds and takes a 1/4 mile in 9.23 seconds. Its top speed is 200 mph. The peak horsepower is 1020 hp. The top range is 390 miles and the quick charging tops up 187 miles in 15 minutes. All this is possible by achieving an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.028 and by adding a new electric motor technology plus faster charging. The motor uses new carbon-sleeved rotors which increase its efficiency while retaining its compact size and power. This is what has been earlier referred to as the "Palladium program". It also includes a new battery but details on this were not given. However, it was said that it uses a new heat pump and thermal system. According to Musk, it is 30% better in cold weather range and requires 50% less energy for cabin heating in freezing conditions.
The new interior was also covered in the presentation even though it was unveiled before. The yoke wheel was marked quickly, the second row receives a bit more space, a new sound system is used as well as acoustic glass to lower cabin noises. There's a new UI with improved gesture recognition, increased gaming performance (AMD RDNA 2 GPU is used). etc. Here's the full presentation of the Tesla Model S Plaid:
