Hyundai Mobis broke ground of its Ulsan factory for EV componentsYesterday, Hyundai Mobis broke ground of its second plant for EV car components production and it should be ready in early 2021. The site is located in Ulsan, 414 km southeast of Seoul. Hyundai Mobis expects to make components for up to 100,000 EVs a year. President Moon Jae-in, Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki, Trade Minister Sung Yun-mo and Hyundai Mobis CEO Park Chung-kook attended the groundbreaking ceremony in Ulsan.

Hyundai Mobis invests 300 billion won (US$247 million) in this project, which is a part of a total investment of 4 trillion won due to being spent during the next three years for advancing technologies for future cars. "The company will continue to invest in next-generation vehicle technologies and related manufacturing facilities to preemptively respond to rising demand for autonomous and electrified vehicles despite growing uncertainties in business environments," the statement said.

The first Hyundai Mobis plant for EV components is in Chungju, 150 km south of Seoul. It has a production capacity for components that can be fitted in a total of 400,000 EVs per year, including hydrogen, all-electric and hybrid cars, a company spokesperson said. In 2017, the company recorded sales of 1 trillion won, which increased to 1.8 trillion won in 2018 and for 2019, the sales are expected to increase even further.Source
