SK On won Best of Innovation at CES 2023 Innovation Awards

SK On won Best of Innovation at CES 2023 Innovation AwardsSK Innovation and its subsidiaries announced that 5 of the company's products have won 8 Innovation Award Honorees and two Best of Innovation at CES 2023 Innovation Awards. This is a remarkable achievement after four years since SK’s first CES participation in 2019.

Among SK Innovation's products that won at CES 2023 Innovation Awards, SK On's SF battery (Super Fast Battery), officially named E556, was selected as the Best of Innovation in the "Embedded Technologies" category. This is the first in Korean electric vehicle (EV) battery's history, signifying that the country’s technology and innovativeness has received global recognition.

SF battery is a type of high-nickel battery with 83% nickel content, and with one time of full charge, it can cover over 400 km. Among all the EV batteries that are currently in the market, SF battery has the fastest charging speed. Applying SK On’s special coating method, the battery can be charged up to 80% in just 18 minutes, faster other products which take 20 to 30 minutes on average. Currently, this battery is used in Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 and KIA’s EV6, which both claimed the Best Cars of the Year 2021/2022.

In addition, other products of SK Innovation’s subsidiaries that won CES 2023 Innovation Award Honorees are SK On’s NCM9 Battery; SKIET’s LiBS (Lithium-ion Battery Separator), and the High Energy Density Cell. The latter is an advanced version of NCM9 battery (Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxides Battery), the current battery included in Ford's F-150 Lightning. The High Energy Density Cell increased the cell energy density from 670Wh/L to 710Wh/L compared to the current NCM9.
