BMW is second after Tesla in new registrations of EVs and PHEVs for 2019 in EuropeBMW cites an IHS Markit research, according to which the brand is second after Tesla in overall new registrations of EV and PHEV vehicles for 2019 in Europe. Tesla has a market share of 20% and BMW has 14%. They are followed by Renault (8%), Volkswagen (7%), Hyundai (6%), Mitsubishi (6%), Nissan (6%), and Volvo (6%), Kia (5%), Audi (4%), Mercedes (3%), Smart (3%). In Germany only, BMW is the leader with 21% share, followed by Tesla with 10%. Mercedes, Renault and Volkswagen have each 9% from the German new registrations.

The global picture for new registrations of EVs and PHEVs in 2019 is a bit different. It is led by Tesla with 20% again, followed by BYD with 10%, and BMW with 7%. Beijing Auto, Hyundai, Nissan and Volkswagen have 4% each. Kia, Renault and Roewe have 3% each.
