SNE Research: CATL ranks first in the global EV battery market for the first five months of 2021According to SNE Research, CATL ranks first in the global EV battery market for the first five months of 2021. Its market share for January-May 2021 is 31.2% compared to 22% for January-May 2020. However, if we look at the GWh installed, the YoY growth reaches a staggering 272.1% from 7.4GWh in 2020 to 27.6GWh in 2021.

LG Energy Solutions is second with 23.1% market share for January-May 2021 and a 166.7% growth in installed batteries to 20.5GWh in 2021 from 7.7GWh in 2020 (January-May). Panasonic is third with 14.7% market share in the first five months of 2021- down from 22.3% for January-May 2020. At the same time, the installed batteries capacity has increased by 73.5% from 7.5GWh to 13GWh.

BYD is fourth with a 1% increase in market share from 5.9% to 6.9% and a 207.4% increase in installed batteries capacity from 2GWh to 6.1GWh. Samsung SDI is fifth with a decrease in market share from 6.8% in Jan-May 2020 to 5.3% in Jan-May 2021. At the same time, its installed batteries capacity has increased by 104.6% from 2.3GWh to 4.7GWh. SK Innovation takes the sixth place with a slightly changed market share of 5.1% and a 152.2% increase in capacity from 1.8GWh to 4.5GWh.

The last four places in the Top 10 list of EV batteries manufacturers are taken by CALB, Guoxuan, AESC, and PEVE. Other players in the market take up 5.9% from it.Source
