2027 Porsche Taycan arrives with virtual gears and a larger battery for the base version

Porsche is sharpening the character of the Taycan for the 2027 model year, rolling out a sweeping update that blends deeper driver engagement with a major digital overhaul. The headline addition is the new E‑Shift system, available across the entire Taycan lineup, which introduces virtual gear changes, perceptible shift motion and a more expressive Electric Sport Sound to create a multisensory driving experience unlike any previous Porsche EV.

Activated via a dedicated mode switch on the GT Sport steering wheel, E‑Shift simulates eight gears and can operate in automatic or manual mode. In manual mode, drivers use steering‑wheel paddles to trigger gear changes that deliver authentic shift feel, gear‑specific drag torque and a virtual rev limiter. The system is paired with a redesigned sound profile that adapts to load and wheel speed, while a virtual rev counter and shift light complete the illusion. The Taycan Turbo GT receives E‑Shift as standard, and the feature can be fully deactivated at any time.

The 2027 update also introduces Porsche's next‑generation infotainment platform, Porsche Digital Interaction. The system brings a minimalist interface, a high‑fidelity 3D vehicle model, customizable widgets, expanded Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and significantly faster performance thanks to a fivefold increase in computing power. AI‑enhanced voice control allows natural conversation, follow‑up questions and even voice‑activated opening of the charging flap. Over‑the‑air updates are now supported for the entire infotainment suite, and the new smartphone tray with magnetic ring technology enables wireless charging at up to 25 watts.

All Taycan, Taycan 4, and Taycan 4S variants now come standard with the larger 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus. The pack supports up to 320 kW peak charging on compatible 800‑volt DC fast chargers and includes a new battery state‑of‑health display. Charging convenience also improves with the addition of a native NACS DC fast‑charging port on the passenger‑side fender, while the driver‑side AC port remains J1772. A CCS adapter is included.

Performance enthusiasts will find further upgrades in the Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach Package, which can now be paired with an optional Manthey Kit. Featuring aerodynamic refinements, revised wheels and tires, larger brakes and updated suspension and powertrain tuning, the Manthey‑equipped Taycan recently set a blistering 6:55.553 Nürburgring lap time.

Customization expands as well, with Porsche adding 16 new Paint to Sample colors for a total of 153, including returning favorites like Shark Blue and Python Green and new shades such as Loretta Purple and Rose Red.

The 2027 Porsche Taycan range is available to order now, with deliveries beginning in fall 2026. Pricing starts at $111,900 for the rear‑wheel‑drive Taycan, excluding destination, processing and handling fees.
