The Ford Mustang Mach-E will be powered by LG Chem battery cells

27 May 2020, 08:48:39

The Ford Mustang Mach-E will be powered by LG Chem battery cellsKorean media cite industry sources, according to which LG Chem will supply battery cells to Ford for the Mustang Mach-E. The cells will be produced at the LG Chem Wroclaw plant in Poland. Ford will do its own pack assembly. LG Chem has been supplying batteries to Ford since 2010. LG Chem's battery was installed in the Ford Focus pure electric version. In addition to Ford, LG Chem has General Motors (GM), Volkswagen, and Volvo as customers. At the end of last year, LG Chem's battery order backlog reached 150 trillion won.

This year's launch was postponed with only a small number of units being supplied to the United States by the end of the year and actual sales for Europe and North America will begin early next year. The delay was caused by the COVID-19 worldwide lockdown, which resulted in shutting the Mexican, US and Canadian plants and cut off logistics. Starting with the launch of the Mustang Mach-E, Ford plans to expand the EV models line in Europe. By 2024, it will bring 17 models to the European market. From 2022, the proportion of electric vehicle sales is expected to exceed that of ICE vehicles.

Ford continues to fine-tune the Mustang Mach-E. The latest leak was about increasing the power and torque of the model: The AWD Extended Range Mach-E corresponds to the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E First Edition, which is the first to hit the market. It packs a 98.8 kWh battery. The AWD Standard Range Mach-E corresponds to the Mustang Mach-E Premium AWD and the Mustang Mach-E Select AWD, which pack 75.7 kWh batteries but offer different trim levels. The RWD Standard Range Mach-E corresponds to the Mustang Mach-E Premium RWD and Mustang Mach-E Select RWD. They also sport 75.7 kWh battery packs and just offer different trim levels. It remains unknown whether the Mustang Mach-E GT, Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, and the Mustang Mach-E California Rt.1 Edition have been updated as well. It is also interesting to see how this would affect range. We've already updated the Mach-E specifications accordingly.Source
